Founded on a Simple Belief

Oak-forge began in 2014 when our founder, a third-generation roofer, grew frustrated watching cottage owners struggle to find installers who understood traditional buildings. Most solar companies wanted new-builds with perfect south-facing roofs. We saw something different.

We believed that every home—regardless of age, roof type, or location—deserved access to clean energy. That meant learning the nuances of slate, tile, and thatch. It meant building relationships with conservation officers across the country. It meant developing mounting systems that respect heritage while embracing the future.

Twelve years later, that belief has shaped everything we do. We've installed solar systems on everything from Tudor farmhouses to Victorian terraces, from Lake District cottages to Kent oast houses. Each one taught us something new. Each one reinforced why this work matters.

What Guides Us

The principles that shape every installation we undertake.

Craftsmanship First

We approach every installation as a skilled trade, not a commodity service. Our engineers train for 18 months before leading projects, combining modern certification with hands-on mentorship.

Heritage Sensitive

We never treat a cottage like a new-build. Every project begins with understanding the building's history, materials, and character. The solar system should complement the property, not compromise it.

Direct Communication

No call centres, no sales teams on commission. You speak directly with the engineer who will assess and install your system. Questions get answered by people who know your project.

Certified Excellence

Oak-forge holds MCS certification, the industry standard that qualifies our customers for the Smart Export Guarantee and other government incentives. We're also members of RECC (Renewable Energy Consumer Code), ensuring dispute resolution and consumer protection.

Every installer in our team holds current electrical certifications and completes annual refresher training on the latest panel technologies and safety standards. We carry comprehensive public liability insurance and provide full warranties backed by insurance-protected guarantees.

Regional Presence, Local Knowledge

We operate from six depots across England—Oxfordshire, Somerset, Norfolk, Yorkshire, Cumbria, and Kent. Each team knows their region's building traditions, local planning authorities, and weather patterns.

This isn't just about logistics. A cottage in the Lake District faces different challenges than one in the Cotswolds. Rainfall, wind exposure, grid connection distances—these all affect system design. Having engineers who live and work in these areas means better solutions for you.
